Learn More About Camelids
Is your veterinarian looking for opportunities to learn more about alpacas and llamas? If so, there are several options that you can suggest.
First, there are multiple conferences around the country that provide continuing education on llamas and alpacas. Among these are:
- International Camelid Conference
March 25-28, 2010
Ohio State University Vet School
Second, if your veterinarian cannot get away for conferences, there is the Camelid Distance Education Program put on by Kansas State University.
Third, you can have your vet join the online vet's forum on the AOBA member's website. Have your vet go to www.alpacaowners.com and click on Vet's Forum to register. Additionally through this website the Alpaca Emerging Health Issues Task Force meets to discuss and address health issues that affect the National Herd as well as transportation and shows.
And finally, you can encourage your veterinarian to join the American Society of Small Ruminant Practitioners (AASRP). AASRP's mission includes improving the health and welfare of camelids. AASRP represents over 1,000 veterinarians throughout the United States and abroad. For more information, have your vet go to www.aasrp.org
